Making of Wine
Vineyards
Grape vines grow for at least three years to start the wine making process.
The longer the grapes ripen the larger and darker they become. This stage
is called VERAISON.
Crushing
Once the grapes are picked, they are immediately crushed to release their
juices. This process separates the juices from the skins and stalks.
Fermentation
The sugar of the juices is now converted into alcohol. This is made possible
by the adding of yeast to the juices.
Racking
The yeast is removed after the wine is pumped out of a tank. This process
is done many times until the wine becomes clear.
Fining
The process of fining is used to remove unwanted natural substances. If
this is not done, it can cause the wine to have an unbalanced taste.
Filtering
While some wines are ready to be bottled from aging and racking, most need
to go through the filtering process. One process is the micron filter, this
filter screens out unwanted yeast cells and bacteria.
Bottling
Corking, capsuling, labeling and palletizing are the finishing steps to
a long wine making process. Once the wine is in the bottle the wine will
continue to mature.
